Emily Aherne

Emily Aherne is a Galway-based theatre maker, writer, director and producer.

Her Story

During her undergraduate degree in Drama, Theatre and Performance in the University of Galway, Emily became heavily involved in the drama societies, having performed in shows such as The Lying Kind, Rebirth, Conversations on a Homecoming, Alone It Stands, The Monster in the Hall, and more. In 2020, she curated and produced a week-long festival, Theatre Week, in collaboration with Dramsoc and the Druid Theatre. Emily received her MA in Theatre Practice and Production in 2022 while also having the opportunity to being the Chairperson of the drama society. During this time of producing shows, Emily also directed The Wonderful World of Dissocia, for which she received a nomination for Best Direction at the 2022 ISDA festival. Emily also has assisting directing, stage managing and lighting design credits, being accredited with the award for best visual design for Catraz Park in the Jerome Hynes One Act Play Festival in 2019. Emily is now the Artistic Director and a producer at HystERia Theatre. Emily recently brought her own writing to the stage for the first time with her debut play entitled “Play to Home” in the Hysteria One Acts Festival which took place in the Town Hall Studio, Galway in early 2023.
